Dynamic stereo headphone repaired. Sony MDR-7506
A sound technician brought this head phones for repair. The left side of that head phone was working.
The other side was completely dead, not even a distortion.
This is a professional high quality head phones used by sound technicians in the field but was a little bit old and needed good quality maintenance.
Four screws on both side speakers need to come out to see what was wrong. After the screws were taken out; I could see the inside speaker. Very thin but high quality wires soldered inside
After testing, I realized that the two red wires are hot, the gold ones are the ground and the return is the grey wire. I did continuity testing between the two speakers and the main stereo plug; I came to conclusion that the ground wire was loose somewhere in the headphones.
Replacing the wire inside those headphones is going to be tricky and I hate to work on details thing like that.
Tracing the fault was easy but repair the fault was really tricky. I bought a new audio cable and cut the plugs off and used the cables inside to connect the red and the ground wires. It is easier replace both instead of just one. It will also look good.
These are the torn old ground wire that I discovered inside and once I replaced the ground and the hot red wire, the sound was loud and very clear. Another happy customer and of course Mission accomplished.

Good! I know, repairing a headphone is a pain!
Yes I agree, I just recently repaired a pair of my own AKG headphones, loosing sound on RHS, the wiring was a real challenge to solder, took me three attempts to fix it, but they now work.
