115 Celsius 2 Ampere Fan Motor Fuse Replaced
An old man and a good friend of mine brought this fan to my shop. Usually I do not repair fans because they are too cheap and not worth the repair.
When I looked to his fan, it was really a fancy one. It has a digital display on it. It displays, speed, room temperature and different settings of the fan. It was really nice.
When it was powered on, the side motors started working but the main motor that is suppose to spin the fan was completely dead.
Obviously, this van was getting its power but for some reason, the fan was not spinning. I spun the bar manually, trying to help the motor to kick in but nothing happened. I have seen this kind of problems before and to solve the problem, I have to get to the main motor.
The customer brought only the motor and the stand and he did not bring the actual plastic fan that this on this metal bar.
In order to get to the main motor, four screws had to come off. By the time I did that, this is what I saw.
Here is where the fun starts. Not really, it is the tricky part of the repair and you need a full concentration on this one because we are dealing with tiny wires that could break and mess up the magnetic coil. If you follow the arrows, there are wires that control the flow of electricity to the motor and wire that delivers different voltages to control the speed of the fan. So, find out where the wires go and with a very sharp knife, start cutting the outside wires cover but very carefully, you do not want to cut and damage the wires inside.
Once the wires cover was cut open, I located the main fuse. It is 2 amps, 115C. If the temperature of the motor exceeded that rate, the fuse will blow to protect the motor.
Once the fuse was replaced with a new one, I put everything back and the motor worked just fine.
The motor is actually spinning but when I took a photo of it, it seems like the camera shutter froze the frame. Any way, it worked fine. Mission Accomplished.

Excellent ! Waleed
Thanks man
Replacing the thermal fuse by an exact same one is always a bit tricky. The fuse would disconnect the coilcurrent if the Fan wouldn’t rotate and cool enough which would increase the temperature. And neither would the Fan rotate enough if the fuse was degrading, by increasing its internal resistance. I guess in these cases only time will tell if the coil resistance was still within spec. Thanks for the article Waleed.
True. You are most welcome
I experienced this with my fan. The fan intermittently worked. I checked wirings, windings, connectors, switches. They are ok. Finally, I found that the thermistor of the fan was defective. I decided to remove it without any new replacement. Now, it has been working!
Excellent! Something new to learn! Thanks so much!
You are most welcome
Do not forget to lubricate the front and rear bearings of the fan motor because it is due to friction by lack of lubrication extra current increasingly is drawn till the heat-build-up has blown the fuse.
Very true. Thanks
Yes, and the fuse is not here to protect the motor because everybody put it in the bin when the fuse is blown. We don’t care about the motor.
It’s just to protect against surcharge that can make it on fire !
All my fans have fuse blown with time. I hope those motors are not on electric cars because they suck. Ok, change your car, not the fuse… What ?! We need best long time life motors.
Old europeans motors have a infinity life ! But they stop making it due to cost.
Thankx a lot Waleed great job
Thanks to learn more article s what type of trmal fuse had to fix
Nice one good working
