A simple fix to a complicated problem in CD player. Model: Aiwa NSX-R51
As I was trying to pick up my son from school, an old man approached me and asked me if I repair CD players. As I answered his question, he told me that he sent this CD player to many technicians in town and no one accept it for repair simply because it was old and not worth it.
I promised him to take a look at it and see what I can do. When he brought it to my shop, I powered it up and hit the open/close button, the tray came out and without a chance to put a CD on the try, the try went in again.
It was either mechanical or belt problem. I kind of understand why it was rejected for repair by the technicians.
As I took the top cover off, I noticed right away that the open/close belt was loose. When I pushed the play button, the rotary tray was not turning. My judgment of the problem either it was a mechanical problem or simply the belts need changing.
I changed the CD player open/close belt and the door was coming in and out without any problem. The main problem now, the tray was not moving around to load the CD for the pickup lens to read the CD’s
Here is where the rotary try sits. I only took one screw off and his was exposed.
I manually opened the try and I saw the two holes on the mechanical parts are aligned together which was a very good sign that the problems lies only in bad or loose rubber belts.
This rubber belt was damaged and needed replacement.
It was not easy to take the rotary shaft off but finally it was off and belt was on, everything started to work normally.
The rotary tray was rotating nicely, and the pickup lens was working fine. Mission accomplished.

Good job, Waleed. I wonder why other Tech’s refused to fix it when all it needed was new belts?
Glad to see your attempt to repair was a success. It appears some repairmen are intimidated by mechanics rather then electronics?
Hi, I have a Panansonic viera TX-32LZD80., it keep red blinking 13 times without turning on any help
Thanks
Hi! I have the exact same problem. How did you re-assemble the rotary shaft with the belt? I had to disassemble it like you did (by unscrewing the tray, removing the plug and the white gear), but there’s no way I can re-assemble it, because the rotary shaft and worm gear (that little gear that lies below the white gear) got loose at the same time. Is it necessary to disassemble it further or how did you manage this?
I also have a dvd recorder & player. The thing just stopped
doing anything. I don’t know if is the motor or what. I am afraid
to tackle the job of trying to see what is wrong with because if
I do start to take thing apart, I don’t know if i can remember how
to put it back again. Even if I do manage to find out what is wrong
I have no idea how to order a part. John it is a panasonic
I also have a DCR-trv230 sony camcorder. The tape will not go down
in the slot. It could be a loose belt but there is so much stuff
to take a loose in order to get to the belt.just like the dvd player I am afraid to tackle the job. I would probably forget how
to put the stuff back in the way it goes and wind up throwing it in the trash.
