As I was trying to pick up my son from school, an old man approached me and asked me if I repair CD players. As I answered his question, he told me that he sent this CD player to many technicians in town and no one accept it for repair simply because it was old and not worth it.

I promised him to take a look at it and see what I can do. When he brought it to my shop, I powered it up and hit the open/close button, the tray came out and without a chance to put a CD on the try, the try went in again.

It was either mechanical or belt problem.  I kind of understand why it was rejected for repair by the technicians.

As I took the top cover off, I noticed right away that the open/close belt was loose. When I pushed the play button, the rotary tray was not turning. My judgment of the problem either it was a mechanical problem or simply the belts need changing.

I changed the CD player open/close belt and the door was coming in and out without any problem. The main problem now, the tray was not moving around to load the CD for the pickup lens to read the CD’s

Here is where the rotary try sits. I only took one screw off and his was exposed.

I manually opened the try and I saw the two holes on the mechanical parts are aligned together which was a very good sign that the problems lies only in bad or loose rubber belts.

This rubber belt was damaged and needed replacement.

It was not easy to take the rotary shaft off but finally it was off and belt was on, everything started to work normally.

The rotary tray was rotating nicely, and the pickup lens was working fine. Mission accomplished.
