A CD Player With Strange Button Functions Repaired. Model: Panasonic RX-D29
A friend of mine and also my dentist brought his CD player for repair. He said that the buttons on the device are not working the way it should be. As he explained more of the issue, I understood that for example if he pressed the up volume it does not put the volume up but does something else.
It took me a while to open it due to the fact that it has so many parts put together.
Step by step I was able to figure it out.
Since the main issue were the buttons and the different strange commands were given other what is suppose to do, I took the cover off and headed for that location.
The first thing I could see was a cold soldering joint on the main line that sends voltages to the press buttons. I re solder that spot but did not test it because I know the buttons are getting the right voltages simply because they are working but with different strange commands. I preceded with the repair to the actual press buttons.
These buttons are what I had in mind and they are the ones that should get my attention. The moment I tested them with my multi meter set to continuity function, they did not test well, sometimes they connect but not well enough.
I had two options here first to clean them out with contact spray and see if that helps out and if not, I will have to replace them all.
I usually replace all the buttons but the customer was not willing to pay for the replacement of all keys so I was hoping the contact spray will do its job and solve the issue.
This is what I use for such issues and it works all the time. So I took the board out and sprayed every key with this and hopped for the best. It took me a while to them going but at the end and finally, the buttons were all responsive to my multi meter testing.
As I put everything back together and tested all the buttons, they were working the way they should be. Even the remote control that the customer said it was not working, it after the repair it was working just fine. As I called the customer and informed him about the repair, he came and picked it up and was happy to see that they were working fine but was extremely happy that the remote control was working as well.
Mission Accomplished.

Nice work!
Replacing all the push buttons indeed is the best way to guarantee that the repair will last for a very long time although contact spray often does wonders. Why replacing the only 9 switches was considered being too expensive is a bit odd if already the time you needed to open the device probably did cost more if you had to charge your usual fee.
I agree with Albert 100%. I can’t imagine that the contact cleaner fix is going to last very long. Plus, it’s neither hard, nor expensive to replace one one or two tactile switches. In my experience, you don’t have to replace all of them, just the ones that have gone off value.
Lawrence: I do too. most of them were not responsive but after the contact cleaning, all of the were responsive and so far no complain from the customer because yesterday I was at his clink and it was running fine.
Albert: he did not want used ones that I have already in the shop. I will have to order them in and is going to take time and more money.
Another professionally attended to job! Very complicated fittings! But when it comes to you, they are baby toys!
Parasuraman: thanks man. I appreciated the encouragement, have a blessed day my friend.
Understood Waleed! No problem. They always can be replaced next time if the problem does come back.
Hi Waleed,in fact you successfully troubleshooted the CD player by spraying the bad keys in limits of the client wallet, because many of them are skilled in personal economy so they always require good repair at a low cost. Without doubt Albert’s comment is reasonable,we all agree with, also your reply was crucial. The job complications and survival needs have their last word.
