A deserted calculator/printer brought back to life. Model: Casio DR-T120
This device was brought to my shop for repair. It was a Casio calculator that has a tiny printer on it. The customer explained that he bought this machine recently and it was working fine. Later on I found out how wrong that customer’s statement was. Let us take a look
It is an old beat up calculator that was not worth the repair but for some reason the customer insisted that he want it fixed.
He said that even if it powers on but it was not working right, he still pays for my time spent on it. With that encouragement, I started the repair process.
Here is my surprise when I opened the device. I believe it was sitting in a storage room for a while just the opposite of what the customer said about buying it recently and it was working fine.
That is the printer area that was so dirty and corroded and it looked nasty.
This is the flex cable that is coming from main board and connected to the printer motor. It was a total mess.
I marked the area where the parts have been replaced; D11, D7 and the big square where the fuse was open.
The main socket of the flex cable was cleaned as well from the inside and then was put together.
To my surprise, the device powered on and I was able to make calculations on it.
Everything on that machine worked fine expect the printer. The main motor was shorted and every time I press the fee button, the screen goes off. I called the customer and informed him with the half good news. He did not care that much about the printer and he was happy with the results.
Mission accomplished.

Super repair THANK YOU
gouverneur: you are most welcome
Excellent rescue operation! Saved a good calculator from dump!
Parasuraman: thanks you my friend.
The customer probably didn’t want to pay extra for a new printermotor. But I’m sure you could have fixed the machine completely!
Albert: the customer was willing get the printer motor repaired but we could not find replacement for it. it is very easy to do.
Probably not, but would this 4 wire printermotor fit?:

Albert: no my friend. too big to fit but thanks for trying. have a blessed day
nice one as always but i have one doubt….what makes you to change those diodes…i mean what happen to them are they shorted, open, or leaked …the reason i raise this question is i have some difficulties regarding to measuring diodes on board special zener diodes …i decided that they are good but i think because of this it will be difficult for me to repair certain equipment…….i mean leaky diodes so if it is possible can you send me some photos when you measure leaky diode sir….
Great job restoring the machine. Respecting the question about leaky diodes, I will say that usually a leaky diode will test good under non-operating conditions but break down once power is applied. A voltage test should be able to fish out a leaky. diode. If the diode is shorting you can tell right away and so should you be able to tell if it is open.
