A Wireless Microphone Dismantled and Fixed. Model PDWM-2600
An elder in my church approached me with a microphone that needed repair. It has two parts, a microphone and a base receiver. The main issue was no sound so let us see what is wrong with this one.
The first thing to do was to confirm which part is faulty; is it the microphone or the base? When I powered both devices, I could see right away that the microphone is being recognized by the base. When I spoke into the microphone, I did not see any level registering on the main UV meter on the base.
The first thing to do was to check if the microphone is picking up sound or not. I could see the power indication coming on the handle but for some reason, there was no sound being registered on the main base.
So I took the microphone wind shield off by unscrewing it off the top of device.
Took the battery compartment off and the rest came off easy.
This is the inside of the microphone and as you can see, the power LED is on and when I measured the 5 and the 9 volts on that board they were present as expected.
In order for the board to come out, the metal ring has to come off and I did that by using needle nose pliers and worked like a charm.
I headed next to the pickup diaphragm of the microphone and tested it out. The ohm reading on that was not right. Take a look
It was suppose to give me an ohm reading but it was showing nothing there which is an indication of faulty diaphragm in this microphone.
The main problem is I do not have this part in my shop but it can be ordered online.
I connected a tiny microphone to the connections of the faulty diaphragm to test to see if there is another issue with this device. Once I did that I could see a sound level registering on the volume meter on the main base.
I know it is out of focus photo but you can get the idea of what I did here. The main pick up diaphragm on this microphone is faulty and it has to be replaced. I informed the guy about it and he is willing to wait till it comes in the mail.
Yes the device is repaired but not fully. I know the cause of the issue and it is being dealt with. It is an old microphone and base but as long as the customer is interested in the repair, I am more than willing to provide that service.
Mission Accomplished (in process).

Indeed no need to buy a new UHF Wireless Microphone if the old one can be fixed. Frequency Modulation is still FM and hasn’t changed much.
Albert: eventually it was fixed. I could not find the part online but we managed to get the part from a same machine that has Frequency problem.
Hi Waleed. I have just read the article and I guess the pick up diaphram has its tiny coil inside which is open-circuited by the looks of things. I am enjoyong your step by step reaction action on the base, interesting to re-read the article–thanks.
Justice: yes, it was open. eventually it was fixed but i could not find a replacement on line. I managed to get one from a same machine that has problem with Frequency.
Learnt new things from you! Many thanks!
Parasuraman: you are most welcome. have a blessed day my friend
Waleed, Now a days arranging this type of parts is main headache.
Yogesh: Yes, it is a headache. I could not find the part online because the model of the Mic is old. so I managed to get a used part from a same machine that has frequency issues. problem solved.
