A computer technician brought this device for repair. To be honest with you, I did not know what the device was. The technician explained that it might be a cell phone signal jammer. It was a device that was completely dead and needed repair.

cell phone signal jammer

It has neither model number nor any information to check online to find out what the device is so we called it a signal jammer device.

As you can see in the photo, the power light did not come on despite the fact that the 5 volts power supply was up and running.

It was showing steady 5 volts reading which made me skip to the second step which was to open the device and see what was wrong.

The only screws I could find was the on the front and back panel of the device. Once these screws were off, I had to slide the metal top part and expose the inside boards.

Right away I could see some red wires have turned to black which indicates overheating. The first thing to do was to check continuity and then check the main switch because I could see some dry soldering there.

power switch replaced

The wires were fine but I replaced them any way due to the fact they were heated and corroded but once I checked the main switch for continuity, I found out that it was a faulty one.

I did not have the same switch so I ended up opening it and cleaning it on the inside and I apologize, I did not take photos of that. It was not rusty nor corroded but just dusty and once it was cleaned and lubricated, it was working again.

Once I did all the cleaning and replaced the burnt wires, the device did not come on although there were voltage readings all over the inside of the device. If you look back to the first photo of the device, the settings was on remote, and by sliding it to the local setting, well, take a look.

The power LED light was on and the back of the device LED lights also came on.

  1. Dries says:

Did you check if your cell phone was jammed when the mystery device was on?

    1. Waleed Rishmawi says:

Dries: no I did not check because the customer was with me and he took it right away and so far I did not get a call back from the customer assuming it was all right.

  2. Albert van Bemmelen says:

I noticed that only the 3G led still wasn’t working? I take it that you afterwards also tested if it really Jammed when you tried to use your Phone?

    1. Waleed Rishmawi says:

Albert: no I did not test it in my shop but the customer came right away and took it for testing and so far I did not get a call back from him assuming all is well.
