Drill battery charger was working but customer thought otherwise
A carpenter brought this drill battery charger for repair. He explained how to use it because the way it charges the battery is different than any other battery chargers.
That is what inside the charger and as you can see it was very dirty and it seems like it has a problem caused by water.
When I put the battery on the charging connections, the green light should come on. As I push the middle button on, the green light should go off and the red one should come on.
None of that was happening. To be honest with you, when I powered on the charger and did not see any action going on, I measured the charger pins and guess it what? It was producing power but for some reason, the light was not coming on.
I think these are what we call it AHA moment. That is when the light bulb on the top of my head comes on because I understood what the problem was. It was just a loose pin on one of the LED light.
The first logical thing to do is to clean the board and after that, I re soldered all the joints on that board.
I powered the drill battery charger on and the light came on but when I pressed the button to let the charging process begin, the red LED light would not come on unless I press hard on that button. A quick answer to this problem is some contact spray inside the switch and… well, look at the photos.
Sorry, the photo is out of focus but you are actually seeing the green light coming on indicating a working charger.
And in this out of focus photo, you can see that the charging process is on because the red LED light was on.
Mission Accomplished.

Well done! Saved another device!
Parasuraman: thank you.
Good Job Waleed. Here in the states a lot of people do not even consider repair
of many consumer products. They buy a lot of replacements, from foreign made junk. I have repaired a lot of tv, vcr, stereo equipment, public address amps,
and microwave ovens. Even now I repair dryers, and washing machines. I always
enjoy reading all the repair articles from Jestine Repair newsletter.
Lynn: thank you. yes, I know, I studied and lived in USA for five years. there are some states that actually repair things but not in every state. I am glad you are enjoying and learning from the articles. have a blessed day
Very useful website
