A lady and her husband brought this nail dryer to my shop for repair. The lady was so upset about the nail dryer not working. She was assuming too many things about the repair and was concerned. She did not want to lose it because it was an American made and expensive.

This was the external power supply and the moment I measured the voltages coming out I saw 29 volts and then it started to drop indicating a problem in the power supply.

That brought some relief to the lady who was waiting anxiously for the result. I asked her to give me some time and I will call her when I find out what was wrong. She hesitated but finally agreed.

I sliced the power supply open and then I came to these two soldered spots connected to the shield. The moment I de-soldered this, I was able to take the shield off.

Checking it with my naked eye did not reveal anything about this external power supply. I checked it out under my microscope and that revealed a lot of cracks in the board that I was not able to see it with my naked eye. Sorry I could not take a picture of it since I do not have a camera attached to my microscope but hopefully soon I will buy one and attach it to my TV monitor.

The first thing to do was using my new Hakko FX-951 soldering station and re soldered all the joints on that board.

It took me a while to re solder all these joints on that board but as you can see, it worked and now the other part of the nail dryer came on. One problem remained, I only got the lights on but somehow the LED lights did not come on. I called the customer and asked her about it. She said that it is an automatic machine; the only thing to do is to put my hand inside and it should work.

This is the inside of the nail dryer as you can see all the LED lights lined up in a way so it can cover up all the area of the hand once it was inserted in the machine.

Hand in, machine worked and customer excited to see the repair. Mission accomplished.
