Intermittent no sound in PC Speaker Repaired
I got back this speaker for repair after a long time for the above stated symptom as it gets suddenly soundless (while power light is remain in ON state) no hissing sounds nothing.
For further inspection I have opened the unit. On visual inspection everything seems ok.
Checked speakers for 4 Ohms by multimeter that also Ok, checked main IC for overheat but that is also fine.
On discussion with customer he was also stated that while using front control pots it gives some distortion noise while rotating. Hence removed pots one by one for lubricate it.
At the time of lubrication I felt volume control knob shaft is getting stuck intermittent. So I have checked this pot by multimeter for 50K Ohm it shows 48K Ohm that is also ok.
So I decide to just dismantle the pot and see what make this pot shaft to stick on particular location. So I have opened the POT.
On close-up look see what I found.
So I have arranged one bad pot from my junk board and replaced the slider track unit to this pot.
After replacing the slider I have reassembled the pot and solder back to its location.
And applied power and audio signal for testing the unit it works without any problem.

Not many technicians will go to this extent! A good job!
Indeed a good job that would have been easier by just replacing the defect parts. But new exact fitting parts are always harder to find. Especially the old sturdy potentiometers of Tube amplifiers and old Radios that were 1 Mohm or higher.
Good job Yogesh. Another device saved from the garbage.
Yup, I learn something new every time one of you post your work here, thanks for sharing your experience. Excellent work.
