This microwave oven was brought to me for repair. The moment I looked at it, I know what was wrong. Take a look:

microwave oven lock repair

It does not shut properly. If the door did not lock firmly, the microwave oven will not function. It is a safety mechanism found for the protection of the operator.

With a use of a flat screw driver, I was able to snap out the frame from the door and take out the broken lock pieces.

The moment I took that frame out, I was able to see the broken pieces that lock the microwave oven door.

There were two sides that are broken. Both broken pieces, sits in a track inside the door attached with a spring to keep it moving freely up and down. Since these parts were broken, the plastic curved parts that stick out do not have enough pressure to unlock the relays inside the microwave oven causing it not to work.

I could not locate such piece everywhere I looked. My last hope of finding the replacement was the junk yard located about 25 minutes drive from my shop. I was willing to take that drive and get one. When I got there I found a pile of them. I tried to take a photo of it but the owner asked me not to.

Anyway, here is the photo of the whole door attached to the microwave oven. I could not find a separate part but I found the whole door. The manager of the junk yard did not allow me to take it apart but I was obligated to buy the whole door. It was really cheap. Since the customer was not bothered to get a slightly different color door, I installed it and it was working again. Mission accomplished.

Good job Waleed! Safety above all you pointed out well! I understand that since the manager of the junk yard did not allow you to take the used door apart you were obligated to buy the whole door. But I guess that you didn’t take it apart after you were home either because the Microwave oven owner was okay with the used door?

I changed a switch 1 of 3, that is pushed open/closed by those plastic tabs. I don’t recall the brand. The manual was inside. probably the easiest problem to find and solve.

It is a nice stainless steel microwave, we still use it today. It stopped working a second and after unplugging and testing almost everything-I did not find the problem, but when I reassembled it it worked fine!
